On a total tear down there is always two problems I run into. The first is removing the axle without hurting the threads or splines. (CAUTION) never hit directly against the axle, this can cause damage to the threads. Assemble the axle hub and washer. this protects the splines .The washer will be the surface you can drive against. Then using a pipe or a deep socket, center it on the hub and hit it with a hammer. The axle removes to the right. side.

When using a puller to break the ball joints free, be sure to not to damage the rubber seal, pull the seal as for back as it can go before installing the puller. Then install a 2 jaw puller onto the steering knuckle and center the puller's pressure bolt against the stud. Then apply pressure against the stud. Make sure the puller is not leaning or tearing the rubber seal. while under pressure, strike the top of the puller with a hammer to free the stud from the steering Knuckle.
